Look after your ink
Tattoo aftercare guide
Your tattoo is only half done when you walk out the door — how you look after it decides how it heals. Here's the simple routine we give every client at N9 Tattoo.
The routine
Healing, step by step
- 01
Leave the covering on
Keep the wrap or second-skin on for the time we tell you — usually a few hours, or a few days for second-skin. It protects the fresh tattoo from bacteria.
- 02
Wash gently
Once uncovered, wash with clean hands and lukewarm water using a fragrance-free soap. Pat dry with a clean towel or kitchen paper — never rub.
- 03
Moisturise thinly
Apply a thin layer of a recommended aftercare balm 2–3 times a day. Too much cream suffocates the skin — less is more.
- 04
Let it heal
It will scab and flake — this is normal. Don't pick, scratch or peel. Let everything come away on its own over 2–4 weeks.
Things to avoid
- No swimming, baths, saunas or soaking for 2–3 weeks
- Keep it out of direct sun; use SPF once fully healed
- No tight clothing rubbing on the fresh tattoo
- Don't pick or scratch, however much it itches
- Avoid the gym / heavy sweating for the first few days
